Halloween
Halloween to me was the best time of the year until recently. Growing up I loved dressing up and getting candy and being able to be whatever I wanted to pretend to be for the night. Now to me it is pointless for teenagers, and should just be focused on little kids. Being a teen I feel that it is just an excuse for people to go out and get "turnt" just like every other weekend, the only difference is they have an excuse to gather and get dressed up with a rebellious side of smashing pumpkins, toilet papering people's lawns and egging houses. I think Halloween should be more focused on the kids. To me the idea behind halloween is letting kids decide what they want to be... In a sense of moulding their future. Always in life we are deciding what we want to be and eventually what we will want to do with the rest of our lives. So for a kid deciding what costume they are going to wear out of the hundreds of options, it's only preparing them to one day choose what they want to do with their life. It's a stretch to think about it in this way, but I honestly feel that this is the basic idea behind halloween, it gives kids decision making practice. As for the religious side of this, all I know is that my grandma hates halloween, she feels as though its the devil's night which many other people agree with this as well. I disagree with this and feel that this is an out-of-date assumption. There is no proof that this is what the night stands for, but to each his own everyone has their own opinions. Mine however differs from that thought. As mentioned before I feel that halloween is beneficial in the sense of moulding kids' futures, but for the teens and adults I feel that it is just our role to go with the flow and support the kids. Nothing less, nothing more.
